Top Three Places to Kayak in the UK

Not only is kayaking great for both your physical and mental health – it’s a proper cardio workout and can be incredibly calming – it’s an exciting way to explore coastlines, rivers and lakes. If you’ve got a car with roof racks or have chosen to get an inflatable kayak that you can chuck in the boot, a kayak adventure is the perfect option for a cheap weekend (or even week!) away. So if you’re getting a little bored of your local area, or are planning a holiday on a budget, check out our three best kayak spots in the UK…

The Lake District

A hugely popular location for a range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling, sailing and (you guessed it) kayaking. The dramatic scenery makes for a gorgeous backdrop to your trip away, with the option of paddling across a different lake every day, whether you fancy Windermere or Coniston. There’s also an abundance of cosy pubs and lakeside campsites (or B&B’s if camping’s not your cup of tea) where you can refuel and rest up after a long day of paddling.

With so much to see, the Lake District is a place you’ll definitely want to share with friends, so take a double kayak with you if you’re going. The Aquaglide Chinook Tandem 3 Man Inflatable Kayak would be our top choice, with two adult seats and a child seat in the middle, this is perfect for a family getaway. This package includes a pump and two paddles too, so all you need to do is grab yourself a tent and you’re good to go…

The Scottish Lochs

The sky is the limit when it comes to kayaking in Scotland, as there are so many fantastic places to go for a paddle – you’re almost better off just pointing at the map with your eyes closed and taking it from there. However, if you’d prefer a little more guidance on your next holiday destination, the top three spots that always attract kayakers are Loch Ness, Loch Lomond and Loch Awe. They’re also incredible spots for fishing too, so you can enjoy the satisfaction of catching your own dinner as well as the gorgeous scenery.

If you’re a keen fisherman, you might be content with a solo getaway, but if not, the Aquaglide Columbia XP Tandem 3 Man XL Kayak will allow enough stability to keep you and your paddling partner levelled when waiting patiently for nibble on the line. It’s one of the most popular kayaks on the market, designed for recreational touring and all-round use, but conveniently comes with fishing rod holders integrated into each seat. You might say there’s almost something fishy about that…

The Cornish Coast

If you’d prefer an ocean adventure as opposed to inland lakes, a trip to the South West could be the ideal holiday for you. Despite being best known for its surfing, Cornwall has countless beautiful coves and bays to explore by paddle along its wild coastline. With clear, blue waters and perfect, sandy beaches, it’s easy to forget you’re not in the Med.

The Aquaglide Chelan HB One 1 Man High Pressure Inflatable Kayak is designed for adventure, touring and all-round use. This means that not only is it ideal for covering long distances, but you’ll also be able to have a proper play around should you find yourself on one of those famous Cornish waves…

So, time to get packing?
