The surf’s great this time of year, but the water temperature is still dropping so getting the right wetsuit is essential. We’ve hand-picked our top 6 winter wetsuits, that will keep you warm and don’t compromise on flexibility.
Rip Curl’s most technically advanced cold water wetsuit. The combination of the new E7 flash lining and the flex energy lining is what makes this one of the warmest wetsuits out there. As you move through the water, the flex energy lining activates and heats your wetsuit, while the E7 flash lining has improved drying properties for ultimate warmth and comfort.
At a slightly lower price point than the Heatseaker, the Rip Curl Flashbomb has some top quality features that will keep you warm on the water. The Flashbomb features a smooth mesh skin panel that absorbs solar heat and reduces wind chill for ultimate warmth. The E6 flash lining provides 20% more stretch than the E5 flash lining and provides excellent warmth and comfort.
O’Neill have been pioneering the most advanced wetsuit technology since they invented them back in the 1950s.
The Psycho Tech is the ultimate package, bringing together all of O’Neill’s best features and offering superior warmth and stretch through the layers of TechnoButter 3 Air Firewall, which is so stretchy, they’ve added an extra 0.5mm of neoprene to the suit, just because they can.
This wetsuit also features the technobutter envy smooth skin exterior which is a super stretchy outer layer of neoprene that sheds water and protects the body from windchill therefore keeping you dry and warm. The seams use stitchless technology combined with TB3-X tape on the inside and a fluid seam weld on the outer for zero leaks and extra durability.
Packed full of high tech features, the Billabong Furnace hooded wetsuit will keep you warm on the water for hours.
This wetsuit features graphene, a noble prize winning technology that is 200 times stronger than steel. Billabong have used graphene wrapped yarns which trap and retain heat more efficiently than traditional hollow fibres (and more efficiently than their previous Furnace Carbon lining), whilst being 50% lighter.
This wetsuit is made using a combination of smart foam and Airlite jersey, which barely absorbs any water, meaning it stays super lightweight and flexible, even when wet. The front and back panels are lined with Furnace Graphene+ for unparalleled warmth, and the minimal seam design ensures maximum flexibility and comfort. To eliminate leaks, as well as being glued and blindstitched with internal Superflex neo taping, 70% of the seams have been welded on the outside.
Made from Yamamoto 39 neoprene which is a more environmentally friendly neoprene made from limestone instead of petroleum, with the waste energy in the process being used to heat local eel farms! The lining is made up of very warm Flaremesh+ and Fox Fleece.
